Key Challenges & Project Details

  • Project consisted of construction of the new Blades Road Bridge over Hunting Creek, a 12 span, 290’ laminated timber bridge
  • Required removal and disposal of existing timber bridge
  • Required construction of 400 feet of approach roadway
  • Construction included installation of steel pipe piles with fiberglass coating and CIP concrete caps
  • Construction included installation of prefabricated timber deck panels with asphalt overlay
  • Traffic detoured and road closed during construction
  • All work requiring crane support was staged from a large barge mounted crane in the middle of Hunting Creek to eliminate any environmental impact
  • All materials were stored on barges to allow for easy access in a site with limited space due to environmental concerns
  • Design and installation of habitats for endangered birds that were displaced by the removal of the old bridge
  • Project completed on time and on budget
  • Project completed with no recordable or lost time injuries
