Key Challenges & Project Details
- St. Clement’s Island considered the birthplace of the State of Maryland
- First Maryland settler landed on 400 acre island in 1634
- Island has eroded to 40 acres, causing loss of the historic lighthouse to the Chesapeake Bay
- State of Maryland began attempts to restore the island and prevent further land loss in 1965
- Corman Marine has completed four other projects to restore the edges of the island and prevent additional island loss
- Access for all material, equipment and personnel by water only
- Project consisted of stone revetment replacement and access road repair
- Clearing and removal of 650 LF of existing revetment
- Excavation and installation of 650 LF of filter cloth and bedding stone
- Installation of 4,000 tons of 1,000 to 2,500 pound armor stone
- Repair of access road through island
- Seeding, mulching, and placing topsoil for 650 LF of revetment
- Project completed on time and on budget
- Project completed with no recordable or lost time injuries
