Key Challenges & Project Details

  • Project consisted of construction of a fishing pier, 360 feet in length and 12 feet wide
  • Pier constructed in Delaware Bay, with exposure to wind, waves, and commercial ship traffic
  • Shallow water at this site created a challenge for placing necessary floating equipment
  • Shore cofferdam was constructed to allow crane access onto a sunken barge to construct the inshore section of the pier
  • Sunken barge also used as a breakwater and staging area for concrete form crew
  • Offshore portion of the pier constructed from a floating crane barge
  • Pier constructed entirely of cast in place concrete through severe winter weather
  • All work completed on time for spring opening, even with the addition of a substantial change order by the owner
  • Project completed with no recordable or lost time injuries
